Cody Pendant Leaves the Field Behind to Chase Records
Moonshine State quarterback Cody Pendant was named the recipient of the Demetrius Award as the most valuable player of the 2020 season in the SCAB. He won the award for the second straight year, becoming the sixth two-time winner along with QBs Harlan Daggers of Kootsville Tech, Constantine Angst of Northwestsoutheastern, E. Chitton Dye of Cretin, Payne Indiass of DeSade S&M and Lance Boils of Puke.
Pendant didn't just join such illustrious company, he set himself apart even among them. In leading one of the most proficient offenses in history, Pendant broke records for QB composite (combined rushing and passing composite), 1687.9; net completions, 201; and completion percentage, 73.5. Pendant became the second QB to break 1,000 in passing composite, his 1038.9 falling less than three points shy of Harland Daggers' mark of 1041.3. When Daggers broke 1,000 in 2016, many thought it would not be done for a long time, if ever again. And Pendant topped Dagger's QB composite record.
And for leading Moonshine St in their runaway season, and his runaway for other records, Pendant ran away in the Demetrius voting as well, tying another record for the widest gap in the tally. Pendant's eight-point lead matched that of Payne Indiass in the 2002 tally.
Other finalists included running back Buster Capp who led the league in rushing and Little Bighorn to a surprise Clan title, running back Hugo Huffcrotch who together with teammate Dustin Hale made PU the best rushing team and second in the Little 10, and QB Tristan Shout who led Dunne-Geep to their first Pack title and an undefeated regular season. Wide receiver Ellis Dee led in receptions for most of the season and sparked Puke to second place finish in their conference. QB Isaiah Prayer didn't succeed in passing quite as expected, but was the eigth best rusher in the league and second in QB composite. The list was rounded out by QBs Hugh Jacks of Bunyan, Baron Fang of Heroes of Polar Exploration, and Dillon Dirt of Footmouth, and the league's leading tight end in receptions, Pat Butt of Lady Warship.
