Eastern Conference ChampionshipStranglers Roll On, Turn Tables on NativesBoston turned around two seasons of underachieving as the most potent team in the East, beating the Columbus team that stole their Eastern Conference Championship last season, after eliminating the Mobile Homes who rose to power with an undefeated regular season. This time, the Stranglers made good on the dominant passing of QB Sebastian Ophuls; WR Luke St. Everything, who had 6 catches for 100 yards; and TE Marky DeSade, 5 catches for 78 yards. Even RB Avery Goodboy was more effective as a receiver, with 3 catches for 59 yards and a TD. Boston jumped on the Natives right away, scoring on their first two possessions, the big plays a 29-yard pass to Goodboy, finished with a 4-yard run by Ophuls; and a 19-yard pass to St. Everything, leading to a 10-yard TD pass to Goodboy. While the Natives' notorious ability to gum up opponents' offense came into play, Boston was this time up to the defensive challenge in their own right, and prevented Columbus from the kind of rally they had last year in the Eastern final. Columbus QB Bug Zappa threw for 237 yards and franchise player RB Dave Rath had the sort of big game Columbus needed from him, but the Natives fell short this time, in what turned out a more defensive version of last year's final, at least as far as scoring. Boston returns to the Hyperbowl for the first time since 2005, when they lost to the Las Vegas Sinners, and the first time with Ophuls. |

Western Conference ChampionshipLinemen rip Bunch AgainQB Payne Indiass and his duo of wide receivers, Ringo Fire and Adolph DeFlore, had a breakout season to push Wichita to the top of the Western Conference, seemingly above everyone, until a falter at the end of the season. Indiass had one of the greatest pass ratings in league history, and Fire and DeFlore finished second and third in the league in receiving. One particularly surprising loss to Dodge at the end of the season created some doubt, but after reversing that decision against Dodge and confirming their regular-season blowout of Iowa, Indiass led the Wichita Linemen blazing to the Hyperbowl. Everything Iowa had to fear about Wichita was exactly what they got, Indiass going straight to Fire and DeFlore for his three touchdown passes, and even burning Iowa more with his rushing. Despite Iowa's own potent combination of QB Tab Lloyd, who had his own resurgence this season, and WRs Hollis Assaway and Sawyer Hiney, and even more dangerous running attack than Wichita's, the Bunch simply couldn't generate offense any more than they could stop the Linemen. Wichita heads back to the Hyperbowl after a 2010 loss to Maine, and a highly anticipated showdown of two great QBs, Indiass and Boston's Sebastian Ophuls, and their receiving corps. Both teams are looking for their first Hyperbowl wins, for these QBs, too. |
